Kite buggying - boarding: Ynyslas Wind Direction: SE Wind Stength: Too strong!? Surf / Sea State: 1 foot messy Air Temperature: 17C Sea Temperature: Weather: Max Speed: Distance Covered:
My first ever session with a power kite! I arrived at Ynyslas at 6.15pm a
little apprehensive and v nervous. I decided on Ynyslas as it seemed more
sheltered than the beach, though I soon realised it wasnt that sheltered
25m up! After unpacking my kite that I had so carefully put away I
discovered that the lines (4 of them) were now very intricately braided
together. It only took 45 mins to untangle! (does this always happen?)
Anyway it was time for my first flight, with absolutely no experience and
the only instruction gained from the brochure in the box I stood alone on
the empty desolate sands... The kite took off like a rocket! I was took by
surprise and had to run forward 18 yards, but managed to hold it and guide
it to the top of the wind window. Here i could hold it under control. I
began making slow careful turns and gained a healthy respect for the power
these kites can have! After 30 mins I was a expert 'Scudder! (is that
right?) After 45 mins I realised I wasnt! A particulary confident turn
saw my shiny new kite hit the deck at around 300mph, and me hit it at
around 60mph. However only mildly bruised I now know the brake lines work
and understand why you need loads of room to fly.
Overall an eventful first session and a real eye opener. Its gonna take
ages till I get on a landboard!
